Your first appointment is 45 minutes. Your physiotherapist will ask about your history, what you'd like to get back to doing, and what has or hasn't helped so far. They'll then assess how you move and explain what they find in plain English.

Treatment may include hands-on techniques, exercise, education and advice on managing day-to-day activities. Your physiotherapist will discuss the options with you, including how many visits might be involved and what they're likely to cost, before going ahead.

You'll leave with a written home exercise plan, emailed to you after the appointment.

What it usually involves

  • A conversation about your history and goals
  • A movement and physical assessment
  • Hands-on treatment where appropriate
  • A written home exercise plan, sent by email
  • A letter to your GP if you'd like one
